What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme which enables registered charities in the United Kingdom (including Clifton Diocese) to claim back tax on donations made by UK taxpayers who have provided a gift aid declaration. If, for example, you donate £10, we can claim an additional £2.50 in Gift Aid, making your donation £12.50.
Do I qualify for Gift Aid?
You qualify for Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer (and have paid enough tax in the tax year to cover the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations across charities to which you have donated).
What if I’m a pensioner?
If you are a pensioner and still pay tax on a private pension plan or a savings account, or capital gains tax if you sell either some property or shares, then you are still eligible if you have paid enough tax during the year to cover the amount we are reclaiming on your donations.
Will Gift Aid cost me anything?
No, Gift Aid doesn’t cost you anything. Ticking the box just means that we can reclaim the tax on your donation.
What information do I need to provide?
A Gift Aid declaration is very simple. All we require is your full name (first name and surname), the first line of your address and your postcode, a ticked Gift Aid declaration and the date of declaration.
Who has access to my information and will my donations be kept private?
All information connected to your donations are kept strictly private and are not shared with any third parties or unauthorized person within the Diocese. Our parish treasurer processes donations and may on occasion be assisted by our IT support officer to access digital records.
How many times must I provide my information?
You only need to provide your information once for each mode of giving (standing order, cash in the collection basket, contactless donations). Following that every donation will qualify and you do not need to make a new declaration for every gift.
What if I have already made a Gift Aid declaration with another charity?
If you have already made a Gift Aid declaration with a different charity, you will still need to make a new declaration with St Joseph’s Church.
How do I cancel a Gift Aid declaration or update my details?
Please contact our parish treasurer if you wish to cancel your declaration or change your details:
